From March 19 to 21, in Düsseldorf, Germany, the Foreign Trade Chamber of Bosnia and Herzegovina (FTC BiH) organized a joint performance BiH winemakers at the prestigious ProWein wine fair for the sixth time.

Within the framework of the eminent wine fair – ProWein, USAID Turizam supported this year’s presentation of BiH wines, by designing and branding a joint stand where the members of the Herzegovina Wine Route and others from BiH were presented: Agrodestil d.o.o., Winery Čitluk d.o.o., Winery Domanica d.o.o., Hepok d.o.o., Winery Majić, Cellar Andrija d.o.o., Winery Škegro, Winery Fazan d.o.o., Cellars Vukoje 1982 and Cellar Tvrdoš Monastery.

ProWein is one of the largest and most important wine and beverage trade shows in Europe. It is place where distributors and representatives from the biggest retail chains get together. The fair is visited by more than 62 thousand visitors from 140 countries; 94% are professionals who have the opportunity to familiarize themselves with the product offerings of more than 6,000 exhibitors from 65 countries.

On this occasion, Darko Pehar, Secretary of the Tourism and Hospitality Association at the FTC BiH Economy Sector and Secretary of the Association of Wine Producers, stated: “This year’s ProWein fair in Düsseldorf represents the most successful performance of BiH exhibitors so far. The ten companies that represented themselves at the joint stand showed high-quality products, resulting in new deals. For the sixth time, the FTC BiH is organizing a joint performance of BiH companies at this fair, and logistically, we raised the level of our knowledge. This year, we had the largest rented exhibition zone to date with the aim of presenting our products as effectively as possible. Colleagues from the USAID Turizam project helped us realize the visual appearance of the stand, and we highlighted the Herzegovina Wine Route as one of the most compelling tourism products of our country, and the exhibiting wineries form the backbone of that route.”

About the Herzegovina Wine Route

The Herzegovina Wine Route is a cultural route that encompasses the centuries-old tradition of wine production in the Herzegovina region – the southern part of Bosnia and Herzegovina, which is characterized by a Mediterranean climate and a very demanding, but viticulturally rewarding, karst limestone terrain. From Ljubuški and Čitluk in western Herzegovina, through Mostar, Čapljina and Stolac in the central part, all the way to Trebinje in the southeast, the winemakers of the Herzegovina Wine Route have gained international recognition through the autochthonous wine varieties žilavka, blatina, vranac and trnjak, as well as many other international wine varieties.

Wineries are the most visible part of the Herzegovina Wine Route, but it also includes many natural attractions, a rich cultural heritage, a gastronomic offer, and a unique culture of hospitality.

The Herzegovina Wine Route is managed by the BiH Foreign Trade Chamber in cooperation with the cities/municipalities of Ljubuški, Čitluk, Mostar, Čapljina, Stolac and Trebinje, with the support of USAID’s Developing Sustainable Tourism in Bosnia and Herzegovina (Turizam). The Herzegovina-Neretva Canton Tourist Board is the founder of the Herzegovina Wine Route. As of September 2022, the Herzegovina Wine Route is certified as a member of the Cultural Route of the Council of Europe – Iter Vitis.
