Drill & Chill Climbing and Highlining Festival took place from 10 to 18 September in the magnificent canyon of Tijesno near Banja Luka. The festival was organized by Climbing club Extreme Banja Luka, with the support of the USAID Turizam project.
This festival gathers fans of extreme sports, as the biggest climbing and highlining event in the Southeast Europe. Participants come from 25 countries to, as founders say, “playfully combat the status quo”.
Apart from extreme sports, it offers an opportunity to participants from all over the world to engage in workshops about local traditions. In the program of this year’s Drill and Chill Festival participants could join traditional embroidery and culinary workshops. Specifically, Zmijanje embroidery technique, included in UNESCO Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity, and the local gastronomy workshop about preparation of Bosnian pie and bean soup in a pot. These activities were supported by USAID’s Turizam project.
This year, Drill and Chill Festival once again connected climbers, highliners and outdoor enthusiasts from Western Europe and the region in the beautiful mountain landscapes of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
