USAID Turizam seeks to strengthen human capital through a series of activities aimed at workforce development. According to the most recent analysis conducted by USAID, Bosnia and Herzegovina will lack more than 8000 jobs by 2027. USAID Turizam devotes major effort to providing technical assistance to higher education institutions in Bosnia and Herzegovina in order to accredit their study programs in compliance with international standards.
On Tuesday, December 6, 2022 the Faculty of Economics at University of Tuzla has officially announced the submission of its application for the prestigious TedQual certificate to the Academy of the United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO Academy) and held a presentation for the study program in tourism at the University of Tuzla, as well as the panel discussion “Tourism Development Strategy in Tuzla Canton and the Role of Educational Institutions”.
Since June 2021, with the technical support of the USAID Turizam project and the direction of international expertise, the Faculty of Economics at the University of Tuzla has been working intensively to modernize and advance the undergraduate program “Tourism Management” in order to meet the requirements for obtaining the TedQual certificate. This certificate is issued by the United Nations World Tourism Organization and is the gold standard for higher education in tourism (UNWTO Academy). TedQual-accredited study programs are essential not only for the students in Bosnia and Herzegovina, but also for the overall functionality of the tourism sector. A certificate of this quality will significantly contribute to the empowerment of quality in education and human capital development, with the aim of developing a competitive workforce on the international labor market.
Following the announcement of TedQual application, a presentation was held about the study program “Tourism Studies” at the Faculty of Science University of Tuzla and “Management in Tourism” at the Faculty of Economics University of Tuzla. This was followed by a panel discussion on the relevance of tourism strategy in the Tuzla Canton and the role of higher education institutions. Recognizing the importance of tourism to the economic development of the region, Faculty of Economics at the University of Tuzla is a carrier of tourism strategy development in the Tuzla Canton, which demonstrates its willingness and decisiveness to continuously improve its study program and facilitate cooperation with the tourism sector and relevant ministries at all levels of government.
