The Herzegovina Wine Route (HWR) is a network of around 50 wineries in the south of Bosnia and Herzegovina, producing excellent wines of the domestic Žilavka and Blatina as well as more familiar international varieties. USAID Turizam has partnered with the BiH Foreign Trade Chamber to transform HWR into one of Bosnia and Herzegovina’s leading tourism products and establish the country as an internationally recognized wine tourism destination.

Through a series of workshops and networking events led by the president of the “Iter Vitis – Les Chemins de la Vigne” network. USAID Turizam is working to ensure HWR’s membership in this prestigious Council of Europe Cultural Route. In the meantime, Turizam supported the organization of two events aiming to promote local winemakers and their linkages with food producers and local culture: Salon Žilavke in Trebinje and BLAŽ Enology in Međugorje. As part of the BLAŽ Enology Festival in Međugorje, USAID Turizam, supported the organization of a course for the first level of sommelier led by Dražen Šunjić, a workshop of Žilavka and Blatina wines led by prominent Croatian sommelier Siniša Lasan, and a two-day introduction to Herzegovina for media representatives.
