Following intensive cooperation between Sarajevo International Airport and USAID Turizam, the Polish flag carrier and member of Star Alliance has officially confirmed a new route to Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Starting May 30, 2022, Bosnia and Herzegovina will have a new direct flight connecting Sarajevo with the Polish capital Warsaw. The largest Polish airline, LOT Airlines, will service this flight all year round, with five weekly flights during the summer and 3 weekly flights during the winter season.
Sarajevo International Airport has been actively pursuing opportunities to develop new and grow existing air routes to Sarajevo, especially after the decline caused by COVID-19. The latest success is a result of intensive co-operation between the Sarajevo International Airport and USAID Developing Sustainable Tourism Project (Turizam), which has included the development and announcement of a new and innovative operational incentive scheme for airlines. The new and improved operational incentive scheme offers a paradigm shift from the previous models and considers the new realities imposed by the pandemic as well as what competing airports in competing destinations are offering. The goal of the new incentive scheme is to provide a compelling scheme and options for new airlines to consider Sarajevo International Airport to start new routes and also incentivize existing airlines to add new routes or increase frequency.
In addition to the operational incentives offered by Sarajevo international Airport, USAID Turizam will work with the Airport and partners on activities to increase awareness of and interest in BiH as a compelling and interesting tourism destination including organizing trade roadshows, destination presentations, participation in fairs and co-hosting familiarization trips for Polish companies selling BiH destinations, as well as visits by media representatives and influencers to raise awareness and attractiveness of Bosnia and Herzegovina in the Polish market. These activities play a key role in increasing demand and reservations across consumer and business channels
