In partnership with the Association Living with Down Syndrome Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina (FBiH), USAID Turizam publishes a tourist guide through Sarajevo, – accessible and inclusive tourist guide aligned with European standards Easy-to-read.
Technological advancements, which are now accessible to everyone on a global scale, do not represent the level of society’s development and progress. What a society does to integrate its members with different abilities into every aspect of life serves as a gauge of its level of development.
The topic of the International Down Syndrome Day in 2023 is With us, not for us, and the Get to Know Sarajevo visitor guide has been specifically prepared and customized for persons of different abilities. Activists from the FBiH Association Living with Down Syndrome created and updated the content according to European standards for the creation of easily understandable information. Easy-to-read information is important for people with intellectual disabilities so that they can: learn new things, participate in society, learn about their rights and stand up for them; and make independent life choices.
The Tourism for All initiative implemented by the USAID Turizam project is aimed at making travel accessible to all people. Everyone should have the opportunity to experience the joys of travel, and we are committed to making this a reality for people with disabilities. We are aware that traveling with disabilities can bring specific challenges, and we want to help people with disabilities overcome these obstacles in order to enjoy all that the city of Sarajevo has to offer.
The Get to Know Sarajevo tour allows you to explore new places and gain new experiences. With a guide, you can create your own itinerary, knowing that your needs will be met every step of the way. And most importantly, you can enjoy your travels and create beautiful memories that will last a lifetime.
This guide, however, is about more than simply the practical – it also contributes to empowerment. By providing accessible and inclusive travel options, we are sending a message to the world that people with disabilities deserve to have the same experiences as everyone else. We are breaking down barriers and fostering a more inclusive society.
