USAID’s Developing Sustainable Tourism in Bosnia and Herzegovina (Turizam) in partnership with Canton Sarajevo’s Tourism Board (Visit Sarajevo), and the City of Mostar, created thematic itineraries and programs that connect Sarajevo and Mostar with the surrounding towns, villages, and tourist attractions.
These itineraries can be utilized for the creation and development of new attractive packages using Sarajevo or Mostar (Hubs) as their starting point, hence promoting trips to adjacent places or localities (Spokes).
This innovative model intends to increase the number of visitors, their spending, and their length of stay in the cities of Sarajevo and Mostar, as well as their satellite municipalities/cities located within a 1.5-hour drive. The spokes were chosen based on closeness to Sarajevo and Mostar, infrastructure accessibility, a plethora of cultural, historical, and natural attractions, unique experiences, and accommodation facilities.
Following a series of focus groups with relevant local community representatives, USAID Turizam, in collaboration with partners Visit Sarajevo and the City of Mostar, unveils new itineraries that, with their planned travel programs, can extend visitor stays, increase consumption, and thus significantly contribute to economic gain for local communities, encouraging new investments and the opening of additional employment opportunities in Bosnia and Herzegovina’s tourism sector.
In the following paragraphs, you will find a series of thematic programs tailored to the diverse visitor profiles and interests. These programs can be utilized as-is or as a starting point for the development of new, company-specific programs. Sarajevo and Mostar itineraries are created with a defined plan and program, while simultaneously tackling the question of the availability of resources required for the program’s implementation.

Mostar Hub and Spokes destinations include: Neum, Ravno, Čitluk, Nevesinje, Široki Brijeg, Ljubuški, Grude, Stolac, and the neighboring municipalities of Berkovići, Ljubinje, Jablanica, and Konjic, as well as the wider area of the City of Mostar (Buna, Blagaj, Žitomislići, Goranci, etc.).
