The La Cité du Vin Museum held a special event where Herzegovinian wines were tasted, and the attractions of this unique wine region were presented.
The spectacular La Cité du Vin museum, located in the French city of Bordeaux, one of the world’s wine capitals, was entirely dedicated to Herzegovina last week! First, in the morning hours, a training session on Herzegovinian wines and the Herzegovina Wine Route was held for the museum staff, so they could best present them to future visitors. Then, in the evening, as part of the regular “after work” event for all interested visitors, the Herzegovina Wine Route was showcased, and a tasting of Herzegovinian wines was organized.
“This was my first time tasting Herzegovinian wines. I was pleasantly surprised by their quality, and the flavor particularly impressed me. I was most delighted by discovering an indigenous variety, which is always interesting compared to more common international ones. This experience has definitely sparked my interest in visiting Bosnia and Herzegovina — the beautiful landscapes and the collaboration between travel agencies and winemakers make this destination very appealing,” said Claire Dubois, a visitor to the event.
This event officially marked the beginning of a three-year collaboration between the Foreign Trade Chamber of Bosnia and Herzegovina and La Cité du Vin, which includes featuring a selection of the best Herzegovinian wines from 12 wineries in the permanent exhibition of this prestigious museum, where visitors will have the opportunity to taste them. Additionally, the Wine Route of Herzegovina will be promoted in the museum as a unique tourist destination. La Cité du Vin is a new-generation museum where the culture of wine is brought to life in a special way, offering an experience for all the senses. The museum provides a different perspective on wines from all around the world, tracing the influence and development of viticulture throughout centuries, across all cultures and civilizations. It is one of the most visited museums in France, having recorded over three million visits since its establishment in 2016.
Florence Mapprand, Director of Wine Partnerships and International Sponsorships at La Cité du Vin, said she is extremely proud that the museum can welcome Bosnia and Herzegovina this year as their new partner.
“Today was a great opportunity for our team to learn more about the country, its culture, history, and, of course, the Herzegovina Wine Route. We had a wonderful masterclass workshop and wine tasting where we discovered various wine varieties from Bosnia and Herzegovina.”
This significant international promotion of the Herzegovina Wine Route is the result of immense, ongoing efforts towards its revitalization, undertaken by the Foreign Trade Chamber of Bosnia and Herzegovina with the support of the U.S. Government through USAID’s Sustainable Tourism Development Project in Bosnia and Herzegovina, as well as all the members of the Wine Route of Herzegovina. In the past three years, impressive progress has been made in the international recognition of the Wine Route of Herzegovina, which has brought numerous international accolades, including the title of European City of Wine Dionysus for 2024 awarded to Mostar, and membership in the Cultural Route of the Council of Europe, Iter Vitis.
“This event was a great success for the Wine Route of Herzegovina. The presence in the La Cité du Vin Museum, the most important wine museum in the world, represents an exclusive and unique opportunity to showcase Herzegovinian wines and the tourist attractions of the Herzegovina region,” said Emanuela Panke, President of the Cultural Route of the Council of Europe, Iter Vitis, who was part of the delegation from Bosnia and Herzegovina at this event.
