The Disability Inclusion Plan is the first document in the tourism sector to raise awareness on establishing an inclusive environment and to express the need to bring fairness in all aspects of life.
Even though, the tourism sector has faced a number of challenges in harmonizing regulations that are aimed toward individuals with disabilities, this plan offers a solution, and more importantly, in very systematic and accurate manner defines a set of recommendations. By its implementation, the plan would encourage synchronized cooperation among government authorities, tourism sector representatives, and organizations representing individuals with disabilities. In the plan, initiatives are associated with governing authorities, supportive partners, and expected outcomes of implemented actions.
Based on the four pillars of the tourism value chain—enabling environment for competitiveness; human capital; tourism products and experiences; and destination branding and marketing—the key assumptions are outlined. The pillars of an enabling environment for competitiveness and human capital correspond to the requirements of existing policies that are important in the promotion of inclusive employment and education. In contrast, tourism products and experiences, as well as destination branding and marketing, constitute a set of solutions aimed at developing inclusive tourism destinations.
Furthermore, through specialized training and employment programs, each individual with a disability will be acknowledged and valued for their skills and knowledge, as opposed to reinforcing disability stereotypes. USAID Turizam intends to promote awareness with this groundbreaking publication regarding the proactive inclusion of individuals with disabilities in the BiH tourism sector. In addition, the plan highlights how the representation of organizations and individuals may and must be improved.
Through this plan, the USAID Turizam project seeks to secure the path toward full implementation of the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities and Optional Protocol in the BiH tourism sector by strengthening the “Tourism for All” principles of inclusion and access.
