The campaign Tourism for All! will contribute to accessibility of Bosnia and Herzegovina’s tourism services and increase the number of people with disabilities em-ployed in the tourism industry
Recognizing the tourism industry’s rapid growth and labor demands, the USAID Developing Sustainable Tourism in Bosnia and Herzegovina (Turizam) project has launched the first ever campaign concernig disability inclusion in the tourism industry in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Highlighting the diverse challenges faced by individuals with disabilities, USAID Turizam joined forces with the Association “Life with Down Syndrome” to publish two unique guides, underscoring the benefits of a diverse workforce, thus enhancing creativity and problem-solving skills. These guides advocate for social responsibility and inclusivity, outlining the positive impact on business reputation and success through service adaptation. The guides also inform people with disabilities on their legal rights and introduces them to popular tourism job and educational opportunities.
Following the development of two guides, USAID Turizam launched its first disability inclusion campaign in the BiH tourism sector, Tourism for All!,focusing on tourism service providers to make their business environments accessible to everyone, from guests to workers, while also encouraging managers to recruit people with disabilities. As part of this effort, USAID Turizam is now working with hotels to identify accessible areas for travelers with disabilities, with the ultimate aim of building a friendly and inclusive environment in the destination.
This initiative aims to foster an inclusive environment by advising the tourism sector on accommodating the needs of tourists with disabilities and integrating people with disabilities into the workforce. It contributes to local community development and supports increased employment rates for people with disabilities in the dynamic tourism sector.
This strategic approach not only addresses labor shortages but also emphasizes the importance of independence and professional fulfillment for individuals with disabilities, offering them greater opportunities in tourism and hospitality.
