With support of USAID Turizam project, Bosnia and Herzegovina takes up prominent role at World Travel Market

From November 7 to November 9, representatives of USAID’s Developing Sustainable Tourism in Bosnia and Herzegovina attended World Travel Market, one of the largest tourism fairs in the world with the aim of positioning Bosnia and Herzegovina as one of the most vibrant and attractive global tourism destinations. In partnership with Visit Sarajevo – Sarajevo Canton Tourism Board, Tourism Organization of Republika Srpska and Tourism Cluster Herzegovina, USAID established a range of partnerships to increase tourism trade capacity to diversify and expand international sales channels and thus increase visitor numbers, reduce seasonality, and increase value.

Thanks to the efforts of USAID Turizam, the Herzegovina Wine Route (HWR) was presented at the Pacific Asia Travel Association (PATA) Aligned Advocacy Dinner held on Monday, November 7 at One Great George Street, a magnificent venue situated in the heart of London. The Pacific Asia Travel Association (PATA) acts as a catalyst for the responsible development of travel and tourism, and has the 32 local PATA Chapters worldwide with thousands of travel professionals.

Representatives of USAID Turizam and the UK-based company Online Travel Training (OTT) signed a partnership officially announcing the launch of two new courses on the Online Travel Agent Academy (OTAA) – Herzegovina Wine Route and Climbing Sports of Bosnia and Herzegovina. Following the official announcement, Bosnia and Herzegovina received an award for the second most popular program on the OTAA. Additionally, USAID Turizam Chief of Party Ibrahim Osta and Datuk Tan Kok Liang, President of the Malaysian Association of Tour and Travel Agents (MATTA) signed a Joint Implementation Plan aiming to strengthen cooperation on developing tourism traffic between Malaysia and Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Bosnia and Herzegovina was also promoted through Ibrahim Osta, Turizam COP’s participation in two WTM panels. The panels were It’s All About Communication – Marrying Data with Messaging, Communication & Technology and a special panel organized by the Interna-tional Tourism & Investment Conference (ITIC) in affiliation with the WTM London dedicated to the discussion about how companies are realigning their strategies per Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) principles.
